Starting a first office job comes with a set of expectations nobody writes down. When to shake hands. How to address colleagues. When and how to leave for the day.
But these unwritten rules are rarely taught, and for young people who are care-experienced, estranged, orphaned, or otherwise independent, there may be no one at home to explain them.
The Unwritten Rules of Work, founded by Terri Allington, treats this informal knowledge as something that can be learned.
The venture is co-designed with two groups. University students preparing for work say what they feel least prepared for. People who have recently started office jobs share what they wish somebody had told them. Their input shapes a practical, scenario-based course delivered through Edbot.ai.
The pilot aims to reach at least 50 care-experienced, estranged, orphaned, and otherwise independent students and recent graduates across Europe. Because the learning is delivered digitally, the course can keep reaching new learners without being rebuilt for each group.
We are proud to announce The Unwritten Rules of Work as one of the finalists of Solve for Change Season 1 Round 2! 🎉
The rules are unwritten. That does not mean they cannot be taught.
