Children feel big emotions long before they have the words for them.
But mental and emotional well-being is rarely part of how young children learn, and the feelings they cannot name often go unnoticed.
Colours Of My Heart, founded by Anita Nwokoji, sees this differently. It introduces mental and emotional well-being to children aged 5 to 11 through creative, age-appropriate learning.
The programme runs on a four-stage Learn, Express, Discover, Support model. Children learn through music, rhythm, storytelling, colour activities, creative play, and guided discussions. Then they express their emotions through drawing, colouring, and reflection. Facilitators watch for emotional patterns that may need more support, and they work with parents, teachers, and caregivers so children get the right guidance or referrals.
It is delivered through a practical toolkit. There is the Colours of My Heart Workbook, affirmation cards, crayons, stress balls, and facilitator resources. That makes it a model schools can actually use.
Colours Of My Heart is part of Self Discovery With Purple, the flagship initiative of Healing A Purple Heart Foundation.
We are proud to announce Colours Of My Heart as one of the finalists of Solve for Change Season 1 Round 2! 🎉
When children can name what they feel, they can begin to work with it. This venture gives them the words and the space to do that.
